We are 3 months away from Adik's third birthday. 33 months old! 2.75 years old!

Adik just loves to read. He is obsessed with the written word. He knows most of the Arabic letters now and reads English easily at a first grade level I think. He loves to read the names of the authors of the books that Vin and I are reading, and also the titles. He enjoys being read to but he mostly does the reading so really, he's reading to us. But he likes the company and guidance. His book tastes run from actual simple story books (he does not seem to follow the plots of the novels that Yaya and I are reading, for example, although he does know the names of the characters and some of the scenes) to board books, and flap books. It is amazing what he can do at this age and the pressure is on for Vin and me to keep him stimulated and challenged.

Language wise, Adik is learning Malay and some Spanish as well. He seems to enjoy the games that we play and is young enough that he doesn't think anything different about mixing different languages in one sentence so that's what I do sometimes. It's very Manglish-esque (Manglish = Malaysian English) except we are also throwing in some Spanish vocabulary. I might say, for instance, "Mana telinga? How many telingas do you have?" (Where is the ear?) or "Vamonos! Jom!" (All meaning "let's go"). It's fun. I must get some Cyrillic flash cards and start teaching him those alphabets, just for kicks.

Adik is a very social little child - when we are traveling for work, he is not shy about approaching other tables at breakfast or at restaurants and speaking to them. Yaya of course, loves this as well so the two of them can have conversations with all kinds of people everywhere. Adik will greet everyone with a cheerful "Hiii", in elevators and other public places. He also seems to call any child "that baby" so if a six-year-old says something to him he might run back to us to say "that baby said Hello!".

Food-wise, Adik seems to be coming out of his noodle funk.

It was a hectic month. Adik's month-birthday fell on a week where we were at home, but I was running around working to meet a deadline. As it turns out we actually forgot to take very many photos of Adik on the 29th, so most of these photos are actually from the day after. That's still close enough, right? Let's get to the photos!

In the morning, Adik was busy typing words on the computer:

How to spell..?
I can't find the L
And here are the phrases that he typed

The t-shirt that Vin brought back from Hawaii for Adik has become one of his favorites. His "hang loose" t-shirt (yes, he can read the shirt without our help). He wants to wear it every day.

What can we do with this box?
Reflections

Then he asked to go in the playpen (usually his time out area). For some actual play.

Burying himself in toys
Let's up the ante
Now he's really buried!

And then Adik wanted to have a tea party. Yaya was apparently not in the mood so Adik had a tea party with Papa.

But I've got cupcakes!
Coffee or tea? He has both
But there seems to be not enough cups

Then on to other games. He wants to show me how the Uno Moo barn works:

Open this here
See the animals can roll out through here?

Now it is time for a break.

Orange Juice in front of the TV
With books and markers too

And then it is almost bedtime for little boys! The boy is now in his striped 'jamas.

Happy Adik
Love how the light is behind his head
Finally a Yaya sighting in the background
Playing with Yaya's pink baby blanket

Before we end, I had a couple of photos that I took a day later that I quite liked and wanted to include in this entry:

How can anyone say no to those big eyes?
Or that shy and cheeky grin?
Little drummer boy

Happy 33-month birthday, baby boy! We love you!!!
