Adik is 37 months old!

Winky boy!

As mentioned in last month's entry, we are now moving to the smaller entry for Adik, where we just round up his month and choose photos from the entire month rather than documenting how he spent the actual day. However, yes, I am finding it difficult to limit myself. So for this month's photos, I have included a few from his birthday trip to the Boonshoft (Dayton Children's Museum).

But before we go to the photos, the monthly roundup. Food status: still good. He tries stuff, likes Asian food, even asks to go to the Straits of Malacca (which warms the cockles of this Malaysian girl's heart) and comes running for noodles. However, he does seem to be anti-fruit and anti-vegetable. Argh. He does eat veggies if it's in the noodles or in his favorite Vietnamese spring rolls.

Reading status: we need ideas on how to challenge him. Must research what to do with very young readers like him. He doesn't like very long stories though (so no novels yet for him) but he does love his books. The new favorite books of the month include Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus, Don't Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late, and The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog. It does amaze me how much Adik wants to know the proper names of things and reads labels and signs and such. Whereas Yaya (still) calls the Meijer grocery store the "red supermarket", Kroger the "blue supermarket" and Dorothy Lane Market the "black supermarket" due to the color of the signs, Adik actually calls them by their names. He's very written word oriented.

Speech status: it is amusing how Adik lumps all non-English words to be "Spanish". So he knows some Spanish and some Malay but it is all "Spanish" in his book. Adik is participating now in the morning cuddles where we talk about our dreams. Where at this age, Yaya had a "recurring dream" about armadillos (I'm not sure she ever really dreamed this stuff but she thought she did), Adik's main dream every night seems to be about playing with Lily. Sometimes he plays in the playground with Yaya. But it usually goes back to dreaming about playing with Lily. Cats are his favorite animal and Lily is (of course) his favorite cat. It's super cute.

Potty training status: Adik will happily pee-pee in the potty chair when we remind him to go but we have not yet tried to go diaper-free during the day. So far no #2 in the potty chair.

Adik seems to have become quite the traveler and asks "where are we going?" and "what state are we in?" often during our travels. The kids received a jigsaw puzzle of the map of the USA and Adik is quite taken by it, reading out the state names and state capital names, and knowing where they go on the map. There are times when we go in the car and he is disappointed when the journey ends back at the Blue House instead of at a hotel. Funny boy! I guess we are training both kids to be a bit nomadic. We spent almost two weeks in Florida in January (see the Silver Springs and the St Augustine Beach entries for more details) and both kids had a great time. They met new work colleagues and everything!

The biggest change for me would be that I went on a solo work trip without Vin or the kids. We were worried, especially about Adik. There were some hiccups, but for the most part everything went smoothly. And the biggest change for Adik is no more "tutus" (susu/nursing) at bedtime. So I am completely done with nursing now. Both exciting and a little bit sad as there will be no more babies nursing for me. :-) But Vin told Adik that he was a big boy now and did not need tutus and he was fine with that. He didn't ask for tutus when I got home either. In fact, he told me that he was now a big boy and did not need tutus at bedtime. Good boy! However this does mean that he goes to bed on the bed with us. Oh well, we'll cross that bridge another day!

OK, enough with the chit chat. Here are some photos taken throughout the month of January. We start with our trip to the Boonshoft, which was a birthday treat for Adik:

Adik loved this truck (and all of the trucks and vehicles at the museum)
Playing ball!
In the "air house"
Fun at the water tables
Splashing Papa!

Some around the house photos:

Wink wink!
Artwork involving markers
My cutie awaiting the pediatrician

The rest of the photos were taken during our work trip:

Happily playing in the sand at St Augustine Beach
Selfie with flash!
Sharing the new big thing (iPad) with Yaya
New Kitten sticker book!
Yay!! Excitement! Adventure!
Selfie with Papa
Swinging on the swings
Playground in Ocala
Drumming in the hotel room
Examining the markers downstairs at the hotel lobby

Happy 37-month birthday, baby boy! We love you!!!

Love this shot of him
